Summary

Located on the River Avon, Bristol is often referred to as the "Capital of the West Country". Famous for its historic port, Bristol's former docklands and warehouses have been regenerated to provide a wonderful waterfront area of historic attractions, cafés and restaurants. This maritime city has some wonderful Georgian and Victorian architecture. Characterful merchants' houses and pubs dating back to the 1650s and the remains of the old city walls can be explored along King Street, which was named after Charles II.

Bristol's Old Port, known as the Floating Harbour, is the main area for visitors. Restored wharves and warehouses house cafés, Aquarium, Museums and attractions including the Lifeboat and Industrial Museum, the Maritime Museum and SS Great Britain.
